What is God’s social welfare program?

Post-Christian liberals think Jesus’ sympathy for the poor implies his advocacy of government action to take from each according to his ability and give to each according to his needs. However, this fanciful reading of the gospels fails at least two Jesus tests: It uses coercion rather than leaving people free, and it creates temptations to irresponsibility.

These critics fault conservative Christians for advocating charity under the reasoning that charitable action cannot supply sufficient resources to feed all the hungry and tend all the sick. However, this criticism seems to assume that the hungry and the sick are unable to help themselves. Indeed, government monopolies tend to erode private enterprise, limiting job creation that enables self-help.

Given the issuees, what is God’s social welfare program?

None. God advocates private property and personal responsibility.

4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the Lord of hosts hath spoken it.

10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

2 Thessalonians 3:12 (KJV)
12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV)
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
