Do you laugh inwardly when someone tells you that they are a published author, but really are SELF-published?
I can’t help it. I mean yeah it takes something special to finish a book, but it takes nothing but YOUR money to self-publish. You just want to hit them over the head, no silly rabbit, you are only a wannabe.
Oh, are you selfpublished? I’m sorry. I meant no offense and as I said, it IS an accomplishment to finish a book, but it is no great feat to self-publish. No self-respecting author self-publishes, if you really want to get published, take the time to go through the process. And pardon me, I thought this was the books and authors section, not the self-righteous answers section.
Well I’ve never had any real experiences with someone being all like ‘oh yeah I’m a published author, you can get my books on lulu.com’ but last year I do remember this instance…
It was after NanoWrimo had finished and I was on this graphics forum and one of the members had posted a topic in advertisements saying they were published and you could get this book here and blah blah blah. Now at the time, I wasn’t thinking about getting published myself and I didn’t really know that selfpublishing wasn’t something you should do (I didn’t really know anything about it) and so when she mentions lulu.com and that her book will be on amazon and B&N.com next week, I’m like ‘wow that is great! congrats! I’d buy a copy if I had the money’ etc etc, and she got 50 more replies just like that.
At the time, I didn’t know what I know now but looking back, I laugh at it cause anyone can put a book on lulu.com. I wouldn’t be laughing at her cause I’m sure she is a great writer and all, but the idea of it is just…I dunno, sad? If I could go back, I might have replied something like ‘Oh, selfpublished.’ Ok no I wouldn’t have cause that was a place for fluffy comments.
