Does an android phone need to be on a data plan in order for me to use apps?

I was thinking of buying a used G1 just to get accustomed to android phones before taking the leap to one with a contract. I’m interested in cardiotrainer and other fitness related apps.
so what you’re saying is that I wouldn’t be able to use most apps outside if I’m not around a hotspot?

Yeah, you’ll need to have access to use apps on the phone. It’s best to just get a data plan because then you don’t have to worry about being able to pick up a wireless signal somewhere. There are a ton of unlocked phones on Cellular-Blowout.com so you can get a good idea of the kind of things that are out there for you. You don’t strictly have to go with an android phone. I think most smartphones work basically the same way, so you can really pick and choose.

I hope this helps.
